Congress: Do Something About Global Warming

If Congress doesn’t put a cap on greenhouse gases and reduce emissions 80% by 2050, then the damage we’ve done to the environment may be irreversible.

Tell Congress to get serious about global warming by supporting Project Hot Seat, launched by TrueMajority. Show your support by helping them get 50,000 signatures on this petition.

Fair Treatment for BK Workers

Posted: May 5th, 2007
Type: Manager Letter

The CIW is trying to come to an agreement with Burger King, the world’s second largest hamburger chain, to promise fair wages and working conditions to the farmworkers who pick their tomatoes. These workers make sub-poverty wages, are denied fundamental labor rights, and haven’t had a raise in nearly 30 years.

The CIW has already reached agreements with Taco Bell and McDonalds, but Burger King remains obstinate. To help, print out this letter and drop it off with a Burger King manager to let them know that local consumers are concerned about this issue. Impeach Vice President Cheney

Posted: June 26th, 2007
Type:

On April 24, 2007, congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich introduced HR 333, calling for articles of impeachment to be sent to the US Senate against Vice President Cheney. The grounds for impeachment can be found here. You can sign this form to tell congress and your local newspaper that you support the resolution.

You can email your representatives from this page as well, telling them to support HR 333. I recommend contacting congress from both links for good measure.

Save the Congo Rainforests

Posted: April 25th, 2007
Type: Petition

The Congo rainforests of central Africa are the second largest rainforests on Earth, after the Amazon, and a major biodiversity hotspot.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), international logging companies are causing social chaos and wreaking environmental havoc. The World Bank, by far the largest donor to the DRC, is failing to stop this destruction while the rainforest is being sold off under the illusion that it will alleviate poverty.

Send a letter to Treasury Secretary Paulson to use his influence with the World Bank to ensure there is a real future for the rainforest, with proper safeguards put in place to protect it.
